Why insulate your roof?

Your roof is a big part of your home’s insulation and by adding it to the home or renewing it, you increase the insulation value of your home. And therefore the overall value of your home. In addition to the extra living comfort this better insulation brings, you will also start to save significantly on your energy bills. The stove will have to be turned on less, which has nothing but advantages, right? In short, both your wallet and the environment will benefit from your well-insulated roof! Of course it is important that the roof insulation is professionally and carefully installed in your home.

Roof insulation: pitched and flat roof

No two roofs are the same. In addition to the difference between pitched and flat roofs, there are many other factors to consider. Insulating your roof is a careful job that requires knowledge and experience of technology and materials.

Different insulation methods

Insulation of the roof can be achieved in different ways. Depending on your preference and our advice, we discuss what is the best insulation method for your roof. Some methods are more expensive than others. To give you insight into the different possibilities, you can read more information about each method here.

Insulating along the outside

Insulating your roof from the outside means that the insulation is placed on your roof from the outside. A commonly chosen option is to use insulation boards. In many situations where there is no roof, insulation from the outside is chosen. This form of insulation is often slightly more expensive, but with a professional approach, the benefit is great.

Insulating along the inside

From inside the house, the roof can also be insulated. An under-roof is necessary here, however, as this gives several possibilities. Insulation placed along the inside is usually rock wool or glass wool. This type of insulation is often the cheapest option, as the job is less intensive and can therefore be completed faster.

Cost of roof insulation

So insulating your roof is a good investment to increase the value of your home. It also significantly increases your living comfort, as you will enjoy a warm home in the winter and coolness in your home in the summer. But what does insulating your roof cost? You can read about that here.

Average cost

The cost of insulating your roof depends on your house type, type of roof and the total area of the roof. For the (re)insulation of a sloping roof in the case of a mid-terrace, you pay an average of € 4500,-. To give you more insight into the average costs for different types of houses, the table below has been drawn up for you:

Cost of roof insulation per m2

As mentioned earlier, the price of roof insulation also depends on the area of your roof. Logically, the larger the surface area, the higher the price. Nevertheless, a discount can also be given when insulating roofs with a large surface area, precisely because of the size of the job. On average, the cost of insulating your roof is between €70 and €140 per square meter. For this price, our experts assure you an extremely safe and careful installation of the roof insulation and a high-quality service. Roof insulation and subsidies

The Dutch government wants to encourage individuals in our country to invest in energy-saving measures on the home. These investments also have a long-term effect on the environment and are therefore rewarded with a subsidy. This subsidy is available through the ISDE scheme and can be claimed when you invest in at least two energy-saving measures on your home. For example, you can combine the insulation of your roof with having solar panels, a heat pump or, for example, a solar water heater installed. There are minimum insulation values for the insulation measures that you must meet to receive the subsidy. For more information and other conditions regarding this subsidy, please visit the website of the RVO.

The subsidy for roof insulation per m2 will be €30 per m2 from January 1, 2022.

Different types of insulation materials

Insulating your roof can be done using different types of insulation material. Depending on your type of home, your preferences and our findings after a roof inspection, we will choose the most appropriate material. There are several types of material used for roof insulation. Materials with a high insulation value such as PUR or PIR have the advantage that a thin layer already provides sufficient insulation. A major disadvantage is that these materials are not very environmentally friendly and this is often one of the requirements of private individuals. This makes sense, since you invest in roof insulation to do your bit for the environment. Environmentally friendly forms of insulation material include wood fiber, flax, glass wool, rock wool or mineral wool.
