What are the ways to insulate a pitched roof?
A pitched roof can be insulated using two different methods: insulation from the outside or insulation from the inside. Internal insulation is less intensive and therefore less expensive than external insulation. However, external insulation is more effective and can save up to 30% of your energy. Read more about these different insulation methods here.
Inner sloping roof insulation
Insulation of a pitched roof along the inside is easier to install than insulation along the outside. From inside the house, the insulation material is placed under the roof bulkhead, between the joists. In many cases, this does cause you to sacrifice attic space. The roof covering that was present on the pitched roof can be retained completely, because the insulation is placed inside the house instead of on the roof. A disadvantage of this is that there is more chance of temperature fluctuations and cold bridges in the house.
Is the roof bulkhead missing from your roof? Then the above method is still possible, provided a vapor permeable foil is used. In this way, any condensation can still be drained away while the roof boarding is waterproof from water penetration.
Outside sloping roof insulation
Sloping roof insulation along the outside of the property has several advantages. For example, the efficiency you achieve with the insulation is higher than with insulation along the inside and there is no question of sacrificing space in the attic. When insulating your pitched roof from the outside, the professionals of Roofers 24/7 will have to remove your existing roof covering. This is because the insulation material is placed directly under the roofing material, which also insulates your roof structure. This in turn has the advantage that wooden beams and other construction materials are protected from shrinking and expanding due to temperature fluctuations. Your roof will of course be finished to perfection by our experts, with the new roofing chosen in consultation.

Pitched roof and the subroof
When insulating a pitched roof, the under-roof and a vapor barrier are two requirements.
- Under roof: The under roof acts as a wind and watertight protective layer on a pitched roof. This is always necessary because slates or tiles are never completely wind and watertight. Without an under-roof, a house or building cannot be insulated from the inside. The insulation materials would then get wet, causing moisture problems or worse damage.
- Vapor barrier: The vapor barrier is installed on the inside of the insulation and prevents moist warm air from entering the insulation material or the roof structure. A vapor barrier also promotes airtightness in the building.

- The insulation material is fixed between the beams of the roof structure;
- Any gaps and seams are taped to prevent weak spots;
- The wall is finished as desired, e.g., with drywall that can be further finished (painting, wallpapering or the like) immediately after installation.
Exterior pitched roof insulation
- The roofer removes the existing roofing and underlying wood battens from the roof. If present, underlying insulation material is also removed;
- Old vapor control liner will be replaced for new liner;
- The insulation material is custom-made;
- The insulation material is fastened tightly together to prevent weak spots in the insulation;
- The seams between the insulation material are made windproof;
